Locate Command Generator

Find the coordinates of the nearest structure or biome — villages, strongholds, ocean monuments, and more

The list changes based on the edition you choose, since Java and Bedrock name structures differently

How to use the Locate command generator

  1. Choose whether to search for a structure, biome, or point of interest
  2. Choose or type the ID you want
  3. Copy the command and run it in Minecraft

This command reports the coordinates of the nearest match — it does not teleport you there. If you want to go, take the coordinates and use them in the Teleport command

The /locate structure|biome form exists from Java 1.19 onward, so this tool does not support Java 1.13–1.20.4 profiles, which still use the older /locate <Structure> form

Worked examples

The examples below come out of the same generator as the form above, so the commands and explanations always match what the tool produces. Copy one and adjust it from there

1. Find the nearest village

This only reports coordinates — it does not teleport you. Feed the result into /teleport yourself

/locate structure minecraft:village_plains

What it does Will locate the nearest structure "Plains Village" and post its coordinates in chat, with a clickable teleport link (it will not teleport automatically).

2. Find a stronghold

Some structures sit very deep and are hard to find; this saves a lot of digging

/locate structure minecraft:stronghold

What it does Will locate the nearest structure "Stronghold" and post its coordinates in chat, with a clickable teleport link (it will not teleport automatically).

3. Find a particular biome

Switch the type to biome when you are looking for terrain rather than a structure

/locate biome minecraft:desert

What it does Will locate the nearest biome "minecraft:desert" and post its coordinates in chat, with a clickable teleport link (it will not teleport automatically).

  • Java and Bedrock spell some biome ids differently — double-check the name in-game

How this command differs by edition and version

This is the first example above, run through every edition and version this tool supports. Versions that produce the same result share a row

Java Edition 1.21.5 and up Java Edition 1.20.5 - 1.21.4
/locate structure minecraft:village_plains
Bedrock Edition (stable)
/locate structure minecraft:village_plains
  • "minecraft:village_plains" was not found in this edition's structure list — the command was still generated, but double-check the name, since Java and Bedrock name structures differently
